This work is a series of self-portraits reflecting the optimism—or the light within oneself that allows one to stay afloat during challenging or dark times. I utilize a contrast between light and shadows to portray “the battle.” I also utilize hard surfaces, such as a chair, which—at the same time—depicts one’s inner strength and ability to leverage hard times to rise and come out on top.
